For many students, starting a new school year can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. It can be a time of new beginnings, a chance to meet new people, learn new things, and experience new challenges, take new classes, and experience new extracurricular activities.

On the other hand, there may be some anxiety or nervousness about starting fresh, meeting new people, and facing new expectations. Some students may worry about fitting in, making new friends, or performing well academically.

Overall, starting a new school year can be both exciting and challenging, here are 5 great ways to help kids prepare for the new year:

  1. Review past material: Encourage kids to review past material to refresh their knowledge and get a head start on upcoming topics. This can include reviewing notes, textbooks, and quizzes from the previous year.
  2. Set goals: Help your child set academic and personal goals for the new school year. This can be a great motivator for them to strive for success and stay focused on their studies.
  3. Get organized: Assist kids to organize their school supplies, backpack, and study space. This will help them stay focused and minimize distractions while studying.
  4. Establish a routine: Encourage your child to establish a daily routine for the school year, including setting a regular bedtime, meal times, and homework schedule. A consistent routine can help them adjust to the demands of the new school year.
  5. Stay informed: Keep up-to-date with school news and events, and attend back-to-school nights and parent-teacher conferences to stay informed about your child’s progress and any changes or challenges they may be facing. This will help you better support them throughout the year.

Did you know the idea for an annual Flag Day was advocated by a school teacher?

On Flag Day, June 14th, we celebrate the symbol of our nation – the American Flag. It represents the values, ideals, and freedoms of the United States. Our flag is a symbol of the nation’s history, its struggles, and its achievements. The flag has been a part of the country’s identity since the birth of the nation and has played a significant role in the country’s history.

This annual holiday is a great opportunity to take a moment to appreciate the significance of the flag and what it means to us as Americans.

If your kiddos or students are spending their Flag Day indoors, download the Coloring Page American Flag activity or consider purchasing the full U.S. Flag Pack on TPT.

Five Steps to Curing End-of-Year Itis – Rising Star Student Recognition Certificates of Achievement PDF Classroom Certificates and Awards

Rising Star Student Recognition Certificates of Achievement Classroom Certificates and Awards_Color
Rising Star Student Recognition Certificates of Achievement Classroom Certificates and Awards_BW

We’ve all experienced this phenomenon at one time or another in our life. End of year it is a occurrence that can affect students, greatly at the end of a long year. It is characterized by a lack of motivation, exhaustion, and a general feeling of burnout.

Here are five simple steps to help them cope with “end of year itis”:

  1. Take Breaks: One of the best things you can do when you notice signs of the “itis” taking over the classroom, take a break. Allow students to rest and recharge by taking short breaks throughout the day to rejuvenate. Breaks of 3 to 5 minutes are recommended.
  2. Prioritize Tasks: It is important to prioritize daily tasks and focus on what is most important. Lesson plan and setting goals are a big help in this category. This helps reduce student’s stress and their feelings of being overwhelmed. Have them focus on completing the most important tasks first and work their way down the list.
  3. Celebrate Small Wins: Celebrating students small successes can help boost motivation and provide a sense of accomplishment. Recognize and celebrate their progress, no matter how small.
  4. Stay Organized: Keeping things organized can also help reduce stress and help them feel more in control. Encourage them to use tools like to-do lists, calendars, and schedules to keep themselves organized and focused.
  5. Reach out for Support: Ensure students understand that when they are feeling overwhelmed, they shouldn’t hesitate to reach out for support. They should talk to friends, family, or teachers about how they are feeling, and ask for help if they need it.

By taking these steps, you can help students cope with end-of-year burnout and finish the year on a high note. Remember to help them stay organized, prioritize tasks, and celebrate their successes, no matter how small.

To help with the tip of celebrating the small wins, I included two editable Rising Star Student Recognition Certificates to download, one in color and the other in black and white. These two freebies are samples from the 150+ sheet Doodles Certificates Book Student Recognition Certificates Resource, perfect for end of the year ceremonies and all year long recognition.

Spring Time Coloring Pages Printable Color Worksheets  Springtime Coloring Pages

Spring Time Coloring Pages Printable Color Worksheets Springtime Coloring Pages - April showers bring May flowers

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “April showers bring May flowers”. It is a well-known English proverb that is often used to describe the arrival of springtime. The origin of this phrase is not entirely clear, but it is believed to have been popularized in the 16th century.

Have you ever asked yourself where did this saying come from? One theory is that the phrase was first used by the English poet Thomas Tusser in his 1557 book, “A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry.” Tusser wrote:

“Sweet April showers
Do spring May flowers”

Another theory is that the phrase has its roots in the American colonies, where the arrival of spring was associated with the blooming of flowers after the April rains.

Regardless of its origins, “April showers bring May flowers” has become a popular saying that is often used to express the idea that difficult or unpleasant experiences can lead to positive outcomes.

To commemorate the season, I created a simple April Showers Coloring Sheet that features flowers available in the April Showers Bulletin Board | Spring 2D Shape Tools Classroom Shape Tools Resource. Discover the spring 2D shape tools that you can use to freshen up your bulletin board, classroom or doors with this season.

World Teachers Day

Arguably one of the most important careers, teaching is the only profession that touches every person on the planet one way or another. With out them, we wouldn’t have presidents, doctors, astronauts, chemist or event firefighters to name a few. Here are some wonderful tips for teacher appreciation.

Teacher Appreciation Tips*

Recognize all staff members. That includes the principal and administrative staff, custodians, the school nurse, adjustment counselors, reading specialists, the computer/media room attendant, the librarian, and others.

Spread your appreciation efforts over the year. An end-of-year lunch is great, but teachers need consistent messages of support from parents all through the year. Meaningful recognition doesn’t have to cost a lot. In honor of teachers, consider collecting poems written by students, making special announcements over the PA system, or decorating the bulletin board.

Be mindful of teachers’ time. Your group might want to plan a two-hour assembly and sit-down breakfast as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, but if your plan conflicts with standardized tests or classroom prep time, teachers aren’t going to be happy. Ask the principal in advance for a time and date that work so you can plan around any potential scheduling conflicts.

Let everyone in on it. Whether it’s by writing a note or cooking or decorating for a special day, be sure all parents have a chance to say thanks. Longbranch PTO board member Mindy Bell says her group invites families to send in $1 to help with the PTO’s weeklong teacher appreciation festivities. According to Bell, parents find this more convenient than trying to find the right gift for each teacher.
