We’ve all experienced this phenomenon at one time or another in our life. End of year it is a occurrence that can affect students, greatly at the end of a long year. It is characterized by a lack of motivation, exhaustion, and a general feeling of burnout.
Here are five simple steps to help them cope with “end of year itis”:
- Take Breaks: One of the best things you can do when you notice signs of the “itis” taking over the classroom, take a break. Allow students to rest and recharge by taking short breaks throughout the day to rejuvenate. Breaks of 3 to 5 minutes are recommended.
- Prioritize Tasks: It is important to prioritize daily tasks and focus on what is most important. Lesson plan and setting goals are a big help in this category. This helps reduce student’s stress and their feelings of being overwhelmed. Have them focus on completing the most important tasks first and work their way down the list.
- Celebrate Small Wins: Celebrating students small successes can help boost motivation and provide a sense of accomplishment. Recognize and celebrate their progress, no matter how small.
- Stay Organized: Keeping things organized can also help reduce stress and help them feel more in control. Encourage them to use tools like to-do lists, calendars, and schedules to keep themselves organized and focused.
- Reach out for Support: Ensure students understand that when they are feeling overwhelmed, they shouldn’t hesitate to reach out for support. They should talk to friends, family, or teachers about how they are feeling, and ask for help if they need it.
By taking these steps, you can help students cope with end-of-year burnout and finish the year on a high note. Remember to help them stay organized, prioritize tasks, and celebrate their successes, no matter how small.
