The Secret Life of Pets

 

This animated comedy from Illumination Entertainment asks the question: what do our pets do all day when we’re not home? For the critters living in a Manhattan apartment building, the answer is: whatever they want! A terrier named Max (voice of Louis C.K.) regularly invites his friends to hang out at his place while his owner (Ellie Kemper) is gone, but his quiet life is upended when said owner also takes in Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a stray mutt whom Max instantly dislikes. Their feud eventually causes both of them to get lost in New York City, and as they work together to find their way home, they cross paths with a vicious bunny (Kevin Hart) who plans to lead a group of abandoned pets on a mission of revenge against humanity. Jenny Slate, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Tara Strong, Steve Coogan, Dana Carvey, and Bobby Moynihan also lend their voices to the film, which was directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me 2) and Yarrow Cheney*. ~ Jack Rodgers, Rovi

Excited about the new Ratchet and Clank…I sure am. Here’s a little bit about it.

Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

National Puppy Day

Founded in 2006, National Puppy Day is a special day to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, it’s a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills*.

Scooby Doo is one of the most famous pooches who showed his unconditional love and loyalty while helping his pal Shaggy solve mysteries on the hit cartoon series.

Salvation Army Day

On March 10, 1880, Commissioner George Scott Raiton and seven women officers knelt on the dockside at Battery Park in New York City to give thanks for their safe arrival. At their first official street meeting, these pioneers were met with unfriendly actions, as had happened in Great Britain. They were ridiculed, arrested, and attacked. Several officers and soldiers even gave their lives.Three years later, Railton and other Salvationists had expanded their operation into California, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. President Grover Cleveland received a delegation of Salvation Army officers in 1886 and gave the organization a warm personal endorsement. This was the first recognition from the White House and would be followed by similar receptions from succeeding presidents.

National Pancake Week: 21-27

Pancakes, flapjacks and hotcakes… whatever you call them, these flat, round cakes have been one of the world’s most beloved foods since the early 1400s. Served up any time of the day, pancakes can be eaten with savory or sweet toppings and fillings to please even the most particular eaters.

National Pancake Week is February 21 – 27 and to celebrate, I’ve created this over sized short stack coloring sheet.
